Writing

Over the past little while, I've noticed that a lot of us seem to be doing much of the same thing: writing. Whether it be in song format like Greg's, or just getting thoughts down on something that isn't our minds, the artillery of combined vowels and consonants are firing away. This got me thinking, why do we write, or try to write in a specific format?

I have a few ideas on that, some of them my own reasons. I think for a lot of people, writing gives a certain level of catharsis, a purging or a release of thoughts and emotions, through art nonetheless! Writing allows the person to leave that thought "on the paper", and not have to take it with them everywhere they go. You could call it emotional therapy.

I write a little bit, I suppose.

Another reason for writing, and perhaps a more important one for myself, is the ability to convey different messages, experiences, as well as personal emotions through text and verse (or prose, whichever one decides). Well placed words can paint pictures and invoke a sort of invisible power so great. However, these words can also be well placed inadvertently, and with an opposite end result, which could do more harm than good. That is why we must be careful of what we write, as words are much more potent than we give them credit for.

One last reason we write, thinking personally, would be to try and convey the messages of my personality through the pen I wield, to show people who I am and what I stand for. As I said earlier, writing is a catharsis, and this is no different for me. Now the question I want to ask you is:

Why do you write?

Odum, you need to take an english class at university! haha it sounds to me like it would be right up your ally... The songs that you write will reflect your true thoughts and feelings if you let it. I know that the more of yourself you put into song writing, the more powerful and captivating the song will be.

Ah.. but Ian, they already do. If you look closely enough, you may notice, but then again, I don't know how much I conceal my thoughts on verse ;)
